xx Again....This has helped me so much!
« Thread started on: Apr 20th, 2004, 07:43am »

I posted this here rather than on the support forum as I thought more people might see it here...............I know I have posted about this a couple times in the past but this has helped me sooooo much I don't want anyone who might or could be helped to miss this.................

BOSWELLA
Boswella is an herb which has an anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic action in acute and chronic models of inflammation. It does not produce an analgesic effect, but suppresses inflammation, the underlying cause of pain. Boswella reduces joint swelling and morning stiffness, increases mobility and reduces arthritic pain.

Leukotrienes are considered to be involved in the initiation and continuation of a variety of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, rheumatism, colitis, psoriasis, asthma, etc. Leukotrienes cause inflammation by promoting free radical damage, calcium dislocation, auto-immune responses, cell adhesion and the migration of inflammatory producing cells to the inflamed body area. Boswella blocks the synthesis of leukotrienes, which is how it inhibits inflammation.

Boswellic acids are from the natural gums and resins of Boswellia serrata, a large branching tree found in the hilly regions of India. Boswellic acids have been the focus of an extensive clinical study validating traditional ayurvedic use

Boswella is the gum resin fraction extracted from the stem bark of Boswellia serrata, a plant native to India.

Numerous studies have confirmed that Boswella is an effective treatment for arthritis. Several tests have firmly established that Boswella is effective in reducing acute and chroinc inflammation including edema and arthritis. Unlike many anti-inflammatory drugs, Boswella does not produce any adverse effects on blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, or stomach distress. In therapeutic doses, it is completely non-toxic.

In a clinical trial of 175 patients in Jammu, India, 97% experienced some improvements in their arthritic condition after being treated with Boswella. 67% of the patients studied showed either good or excellent response to treatment. Symptomatic relief from morning stiffness of joints, pains and loss of grip strength was observed only two to four weeks after therapy started. Boswella is truly the first effective herbal adjuntive treatment for arthritic conditions.

Boswella has been used for centuries as a home remedy in India and has more recently achieved clinical use through physicians in India. It is practically devoid of side affects when taken at recommended dosages.

Clinical trials were undertaken across the United States in the summer of 1991. In those studies, over 80% of severe arthritic patients reported that Boswella worked as well, if not better than previous non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory agent that they had taken.

Boswellic acids possess good anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, and analgesic activity. They also significantly reduce the total white blood cell count in the joint fluid. Boswella is thus a potent anti-arthritic with added advantages of being free from side effects such as gastric irritaion and ulcer forming activity.

grin grin grin grin
Pat, I am feeling so good that I am almost afraid to say - for fear the other shoe will drop! I only got about 6 to 6 1/2 hours sleep last night and am still not over tired today. Of course I went home last night and took it easy instead of doing the extra chores I thought I might do. I am trying hard NOT to overdo but to take things gradually! But between Andy and the dogs both having a rough night - I also missed out on sleep! But apparently the sleep I got was good - because here I am and no slump yet and it is 10:30am. I just can't believe that I am not stiff at all and not overly aching..

Following is the mix of herbs and suplements I am currently taking:
1500mg Boswella (500mg 3X a day)
200mg CoQ10 (100mg mourning and noon)
B100 Complex (mourning)
plus my 2 BP meds

at bed time I am taking 400mg Magnesum
my Valerian Root and Melatonia with a mug of Sleepytime Mint tea

I am researching GABA as a possible supliment to add to the mix and also the B12 shots you give yourself.

Will keep you informed.

I have talked Andrea into trying it... she has RA pretty bad and suffers a lot from it. What was that herbal/drug interaction site again? Cause she has other meds and we need to know if perhaps there could be a conflict.

That is such great news! I'm a little afraid at adding anything right now cause the ART dr. added some supps that made me really sick embarassed But, if I can get the nerve up to try, I'll put Boswella next on my list. I'm taking co q, lots of b vitamins/heavy b6 and my normal meds now. They sure are causing havoc with my tummy, though. Can't decide if it's the b's or the co q.

Lendi...B vitamins are a problem with me if I don't watch the dosage when I take them. They can really set off the IBS with me tongue

Take care,

I have to be a tad careful of the B's too. I rarely have the normal reaction to meds. I remember a few years ago I was taking something or other for my knee. The knee remained in horrible pain, and I couldn't stay out of the bathroom...........I am sure it was funny seeing me trying to race for the bathroom on one leg! I thought I had a bad stomach virus or something but I didn't otherwise feel sick - just in the bathroom 1/2 the day! This was a side effect that wasn't even listed on the med because it was sooooooo rare that it effected anyone in that way! So I know where you are coming from in being careful. Everything I have read about Boswellia lists NO SIDE EFFECTS AND NO INTERACTIONS with other MEDS! I have to be careful because of the high BP!
We are having a lot of rain here the last couple days, storms, etc. I am having minimal stiffness, very little aching.......... cheesy I am still a very happy camper!

Ethel is sweet. Still not as sociable as I would like but sweet. She prefers her crate or the blanket on the floor of her room to being with the family. I missed Andy last night and he was laying on the office floor with her! He was back there about a 1/2 hour or so. Said he was goin to do that every night until she gets more comfortable with us!
Health wise she is doing great! eats like a HORSE! Is doing pretty good with housebreaking. I truly believe she had never been inside a house before! But if "I" pay attention to her she will go to the back door - but she is very impatient - if I don't notice her right now - well - then we have a puddle! tongue BUt those are few and far between.
The other girls are great.
OH, OH! Before I forget, Ethel and I saw another double rainbow last night. I have only seen two double rainbows in my life and both were while walking Ethel!
Strider told me they were lucky - must be Ethel's good luck sign then!
